Hey Friends,
Have you heard of San Marino? This is one of the world’s oldest and smallest constitutional republics. If you google it, you'll probably see it as “San Marino, Italy”. San Marino isn’t actually in Italy although it's totally landlocked by it and surrounded by the Emilia-Romagna and Le Marche regions. 🇸🇲
I went from Rome to Rimini (via Ancona) by train and from there took the San Marino bus. This was just €5. The Bonelli bus climbed higher and higher as the road twisted ever upwards. Mount Titano is over 700 metres above sea level so my ears actually popped on the way up. I knew for sure I’d left Italy and arrived in a new country when I received the text from my phone carrier: “Welcome to San Marino”. 🚌
Most people will say you should visit San Marino only for a day trip. In fact, that's how Italians do it. But if you're not from Italy, I'd recommend spending at least 2 days. Why? 👇
Tourists come around 10/11am from Italy and leave around 5/6pm again. So that period can be really busy. But if you stay overnight you'll enjoy the mornings, late afternoons and nights! 🥳
You'll have time to explore the Three Towers of San Marino, located on the three peaks of Monte Titano. These towers are part of the national flag and coat of arms. So they're truly special. 🏔️
If you're into photography/videography, then you'll know the “golden hour” is the period of daytime shortly after sunrise or before sunset, during which daylight is more red and softer than when the sun is higher in the sky. This is the best time to take photos and film. In fact, most of this video was filmed 30 mins before the sunset, hence my skin looks more orange/red, particularly towards the end. 📸
Next week, our journey will take us to Tuscany region in central Italy and as always, I'll post a video on the channel.
Have a great week!
Alejandro
