51 | Europe's Oldest Cake
Hey guys,
This week, I released a video-> Europe's Oldest CAKE ?! ŠAKOTIS (BAUMKUCHEN) | Lithuania Vlog. I'd love to hear your thoughts! 🤓
Last week I mentioned that more stuff about Lithuania was coming but this week's video is a bit different from my usual ones. It's about connecting with a cultural heritage. Something really deep in its history. A simple (set of ingredients) and complex (historical) cake that has been a secret from the early 15th century when the monks developed it. 🥮
Talking about secrets, the past week has been hectic as we were organising few things for our move to Madrid, so we had visits (we're finding a tenant for our house in England) and we were arranging visits to find a flat in Madrid next week. 🏡
The feeling of starting a new chapter is incredible. I lived in so many different places in France and England. At some point I was partially living in Switzerland (work projects requiring to travel pretty much every week for a very long time). So having the opportunity to relocate to Spain is exciting. 🇪🇸
If I were to promote something, I'd promote moving as far and as much as we can. Because moving is like walking in someone else’s shoes, eating their food, speaking the same language, seeing and feeling similar things. It's just fascinating. 🧳
Yes, I get it. Once we're “old” we want to settle, stay in the same house, go to the same places, have our circle of friends, etc. I understand those things are important and to an extend I agree but at some point if we keep doing the same for such a long period of time, we could question our lives. 🤔
Are we really happy with our lives? If we could change something, what would it be? Do we have regrets? In my case, I strongly believe that broadening our understanding of the world and its people is the best thing about living abroad. We're constantly confronted with new ideas, ways of thinking, languages and unconventional situations. It's that challenge that pushes us to grow. 🚀
Enjoy your Sunday and have a great week!
Alejandro

🎯 This Week’s Quote
“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

Lekėčiai is a small town in southwestern Lithuania with a population of 848 people. However, something magical happened here. I connected with one of the oldest traditions in Europe. Let’s talk about šakotis cake.

I've recently made šakotis in Lithuania (originally baumkuchen), I had a truly unique experience making the spit cake in a village in Lithuania in Europe so I hope you like this experience! Here's the video.
