32 | Time Is Relative
Hey guys,
This week, I released aĀ videoĀ š¬Ā aboutĀ Things I Didn't Expect in Dominican RepublicĀ š. When we think about a Caribbean island, Iām sure words like freedom, tropical sunshine, relaxation, and joy come to mind. Weāre not wrong. But in the video I wanted to share 3 things I experienced that go beyond that and were the highlights of my trip. In case you don't get the notification, every time I post a new video, you can get an alert by clickingĀ here. šļø
When working on the video, I was thinking that the biggest communication problem is not language. It's the fact that we don't listen to understand but we listen to reply. We're constantly reacting and making assumptions. š
In the island, time is relative. We can't control it. There's no need to rush to do things. There's no "oh, do I have time for this?"Ā If something happens, itās meant to happen. Thereās no pressure to speak and no rush to think. We just need to listen to understand the signals. ā
I feel like in a way they practice mindfulness by slowing down, making happiness a way of life and not stressing about every little detail. They don't spend their time complaining, but choose to work hard and do it with a smile. I truly admire the way they go through life with a positive attitude. š§
Finally, I started to track all my activity based on the oldĀ Pomodoro Technique, a time management system that encourages us to work with the time we haveārather than against it. Using thisĀ method, we break our workday into 25-minuteĀ chunks separated by 5-minuteĀ breaks. These intervals are pomodoros. š
Have a great week and enjoy the content below!

PS: somebody asked me how much it takes to make these YouTube videos, I'll talk about this next weekā¦ including some pomodoro analysis!

āWe live in an aspiration-driven culture that is rooted in instant gratification. We find it difficult to enact or even accept incremental progress. Which is exactly what you need to cultivate meaningful long-term change.ā

My first destination was Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. If youāre like me, you might understand that sometimes we need to take time off to recharge our batteries. Punta Cana is an interesting place for that: 30km of white sand and clear water doesnāt sound too bad. It has also become a beach resort powerhouse over the years. But what these resorts lack is a true immersive experience in the Dominican Republic, so let's talk about this.
